Description
The historical walk in the village of Episcopia will be organized among the municipal tourist itineraries n. 1 “Rione Piediterra” and n. 2 “Middle Ages to Baroque”
Tourist itinerary no. 1 proposes a visit to the most scenic district of the town, nestled between the Castle and the cliff overlooking the valley of the Sinni river, where you can recognize the authentic village of Episcopia, preserved almost intact in its ancient urban structure.
The pleasant setting of the manor has preserved its archaic quiet, making it a picturesque corner of paradise in which only the rare chirping of birds or the periodic crowing of the rooster can break the magical silence that envelops it.
After visiting the Mother Church and the rocky spur on which the symbolic Tower of the town stands, you will be able to admire the Masso della Timpa di Ciamparella and the ravines between the rocks beneath which runs the secret passage used by the Marquis as an escape route from the Castle in case of siege.
Tourist itinerary no. 2 winds through the alleys starting from the square below the medieval castle built by the Byzantines around the century. VIII.
Through Via Roma, the ancient main road axis of the historic center of the town, and Via Timpone you will encounter the main noble palaces until you reach the Convent of Sant’Antonio, a baroque wonder of Episcopia and home to the Council Chamber, the Library and the Media Library . The backward route will take you back to Piazza Arcieri passing in front of the Cappella dell’Addolorata and the Municipal Clock Tower.
