Loredana Calabrese

Artistic director Balletto Lucano and Pollino Danza

Born in Basilicata (Southern Italy) in 1976, Loredana Calabrese embarked on her journey of artistic growth and refinement in Italy after training at the contemporary dance company “RENATO GRECO.” As she worked as a dancer both in Italy and abroad, she found herself increasingly drawn to the experimental and choreographic aspects of dance composition. Her focus shifted towards understanding a dancer’s training, their dynamics, and how to optimize the body’s potential despite its limitations and unique characteristics.

In late 90’s, she returned to her beloved homeland, where in 2003 she established the cultural and artistic association called “Balletto Lucano”. This organization quickly became a nurturing ground for artistic and cultural development, attracting numerous young talents from Basilicata and beyond. This culminated in 2006 in the creation of the dance company of Balletto Lucano.

Through collaborations with various centers and theaters in Italy and abroad, she fearlessly created a meeting place for artists from all corners of the world within the province of Basilicata. This effort helped build bridges of opportunities for the youth of Lucania and beyond, as the quality of training and artistic excellence drew aspiring artists from across Italy.

With a deep knowledge of the Lucanian landscape and its cultural heritage, Loredana consistently incorporates them as a theme and source of inspiration in the projects of the company of Balletto Lucano.

The peculiarity of the Balletto Lucano and its company lies in the concept of “dance terroir”, a unique artistic language that uses the local artistic and landscape heritage as raw material and as a stage, while being able to communicate universally through the body and movement.
